In 2023, I was elected Vice President of the TRU Students’ Union, leading the Union’s Services Committee. From learning how to work in an institutional setting to leading board meetings and passing legislation, this experience provided me amazing opportunities for professional development.
Services Committee
The TRUSU Services Committee oversees a wide range of services designed to support students in the academic success, well-being, and campus life. Below are a snapshot of some of the programs which I ran as Vice President.

Community Meals Program
Bi-weekly, the Services Committee hosts a hot-lunch for students on campus, meant to ease stress related to food insecurity and provide a space for students to engage with one another.
Chef’s Packages
On a monthly basis, the Services Committee hands out ingredient kits for a healthy, home-cooked meal, meant to provide assistance to students facing food insecurity

Personal Development
My time in TRUSU was not just beneficial for me professionally, but was foundational for much of my personal development. When I was originally elected, I was excited to make big changes on the institutional side of things, specifically around the Clubs and Grants system, as my time as a club leader had given me a good idea of some much-needed changes. Though, as I begin to settle into my role, I realized how much more there was to the services committee beyond clubs and grants.
Playing a pivotal role in supporting students facing financial and food insecurity helped shape my values and who I am today. Much of my drive to serve others and support those who are less-fortunate was reinforced during my time with TRUSU, and is continuously shown in my work to this day.
Notable Projects
Making large changes while working within a Board of Directors setting requires flexibility and the ability to convey your message effectively. During my year serving on the board, I played a primary role in advancing several changes:
- Created the Union’s Operational Policy on Clubs, solidifying the Union’s commitment to supporting Club activities and laying out ratification processes
- Adjustment to the Electoral Policy, ensuring fair elections without a ‘party system’
- Created several events which will recur on an annual basis, such as the Club Leader Social, Club Awards Night, and TRUSU Study Night
